Text Box: Explore an old-fashioned logging town and ride on the railroad that served it on the Cass, West Virginia Endless Mountain Tour. Our destination will be West Virginia’s Cass Scenic Railroad State Park in beautiful Pocahontas County where we’ll enjoy a ride up the mountain to Bald Knob in an open passenger car pulled by one of the famous last of the Shay locomotives.
Bald Knob, at an elevation of 4,842 feet, is the second highest point in West Virginia. The train will stop at Whittaker station. We’ll enjoy lunch on top of the mountain.
But our tour is not just about riding the rails. We’ll reach motorcycling nirvana along Smokehole Road on North Fork Mountain where steep rock walls, thick forest and clear streams abound. Along the way we’ll view impressive rock formations of Tuscarora quartzite. The most imposing of them is Seneca Rocks, rising nearly 900 feet above the North Fork River.
A final highlight of the tour will be Blackwater Falls. Blackwater Falls is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories then twist and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge. The falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia.
The Cass, West Virginia Endless Mountain Tour is a unique ride that explores some of West Virginia’s historic past. It’s sure to be a great ride and a great time.
