Over the years PARR has hosted both AMA sanctioned Poker Rides and club only day and overnight rides.  Our overnight rides varied from 2 to 4 days and during which we traveled as far south as Florida on the autotrain and as far north as New York for Americade and a scenic tour of the Catskill Mountains.

If you were a PARR memeber you would not have to read about these rides.  You would have been there.

  • Deaps Gap - August 2000 - click here and read the story
  • Rhineback AeroDrome -
  • AutoTrain and the south
  • National Park Ride 02/07/09- A short 195 mile ride visiting local national parks (Harpers Ferry, Antietam, Catoctin Mountain, and Monocacy Battfields) to collect stamps and get the winter cobwebs shaken off.
  • Maple Syrup Festival March 21 The Maple Syrup Rider Leader Ron Perlik  - A typical 245 mile ride from Virginia to West Virginia and back to Virginia.  A great pancacke lunc in Monterey, VA celebrating the Maple Syrup Festival with a visit afterward to a  sugar bush to see how it's all done.  This has become an annual highlight on the PARR ride calendar. More information can be found at Highland County Chamber of Commerce, Monterey VA
  • Cherohala Skyway, Tennessee — June 13-21

Tom Southard will lead this 7-9 day tour into the south.  (Originally this was to be a ride into the New England states but the plan has changed.)  Two days will be used to get riders to the great state of Tennessee.  Over the next few days, the ride will take you on the Cherohala Skyway, a national scenic byway completed in 1996 after 34 years of construction.  It crosses through the Cherokee and Nantohala National Forests.  Riders will also experience Dolly Parton land in Gatlinburg.  You can’t leave Tennessee without experiencing the Jack Daniels distillery—if you haven’t seen it, it’s a must see.  Then it will be on to Ashville, North Carolina before  the two-day ride back home.   Daily mileage will vary with no predetermined stops. Contact Tom for further details at:  Tssouthard@verizon.net.

  • July 18-20 South West Virginia Rider Leader Chet Phillips

The Grayson Highlands tour to southwestern Virginia will take place on Saturday July 18 through Monday July 20.  It will include a mixture of primary and secondary roads through the mountains and countryside with the primary destination being Grayson Highlands State Park.

Day 1 – We will leave from Manassas on Saturday morning, traveling south through Culpeper and then through the foothills east of Shenandoah NP, to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  From there we will head west through Buena Vista and Lexington.  We will run parallel to the mountains to Christiansburg for overnight lodging.  Estimated final mileage is about 300 miles.

Day 2 – Will consist of a circle route, heading south from Christiansburg, through the Mount Rogers National Recreational area.  At the southern end of the loop, we will stop at Grayson Highlands State Park http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/gra.shtml .  Short hikes (bring your sneakers) to scenic vistas are available, or just relax at the visitor's center.  We will then continue through the mountains, returning to Christiansburg.  Approximately 260 miles total.

Day 3 – We will leave Christiansburg in the morning, using a southern route, linking up with a different section of the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Peaks of Otter.  The last section will include US 15 North, back into the DC area.  Approximately 325 miles back to Manassas.

Costs – There are a number of motels in Christiansburg with rooms in the $50-70 range per night.  I will check into getting a block of rooms.  There is also a small entrance charge at Grayson Highlands.

  • August 22-24 West Virginia Ride Leader Paul Flynn

The August 22-24 West Virginia ride will expand on last year's WV ride, revisiting many of last year's beautiful twisty mountain roads and spectacular scenery.
Day One (8/22), we will head through Luray, then southwest to the George Washington National Forest. We will stop for lunch in Monterey VA, then head south through the Monongahela National Forest to get what we hope will be a drier look than we had last year at the Cranberry Wilderness Area . We'll end the day in Summersville WV at the Best Western and have dinner at Dominic's Italian Chop House. (Big hit last year.)
Day Two, we will head to Fayetteville WV and spend some time checking out the New River Gorge Bridge (the highest vehicular bridge in the Americas, and the second-highest in the world. Also, the second longest steel arch bridge in the world.) We will then wind our way back north for the night's stay at the Highland Inn in Monterey VA.
Day Three (Monday 8/24) we'll head up through valley north of Monterey and take in the Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area with some of its hidden roads and spectacular overlooks before heading home.

The start and finish will be at Sheetz in Haymarket.

October 10-11 Fall Foliage Ride Leader Tom Southard

This year's Fall Foliage Ride October 10 -11, will be to beautiful Kingwood West Virginia. We will depart from the Sheetz in Hay Market at 8:30 a.m. We will take in parts of the Shenandoah National Park, the George Washington National Forest and the Monongahela National Forest.

We will be staying at the Heldreth Motel in Kingwood, WV. The motel boasts a restaurant and a tavern within walking distance. The motel also has rooms with three double beds which would be useful if we have an uneven number of people. I have made a reservation for myself (I could use a roomy). I have five other rooms on hold until October 1st under PARR .
