    Riding Requirements

    “Safety is first and foremost when riding any PARR ride.”

     List of Requirements For Riders & Passengers;

    · You will be required to sign a ride waiver.

    · You must have a valid motorcycle endorsement on your driver’s license.

    · Your motorcycle must be able to pass valid safety inspection, be road worthy and legal for riding on all state highways.

    · Do not expect to learn how to ride a motorcycle on a PARR Tour. You should have at least 5,000 miles of riding experience.

    · You must have the ability to ride safely at highway speeds and be able to ride in a group environment.

    · You will be required to obey standard AMA and PARR group riding rules.

    · You must be experienced and able to ride safely in the rain and the dark of night.

    · Recommended riding apparel includes:  DOT approved helmets, gloves & riding boots that cover the ankles. Appropriate riding pants and tops are also recommended. Shorts, halter tops, sandals, sneakers, bare arms and legs while riding offer very little protection and is strongly discouraged.

    ·  All tour riders are responsible for providing their own protective gear.

    · Layered clothes and good quality rain gear are highly recommended.

     Weather Conditions:

    · Participants must be prepared for a variety of riding conditions on all tours.  Rain, of course, is common during the summer months. Also temperatures can range from under 50 degrees in the mountains to well over 90 degrees in the valleys.  Since ride dates and accommodation reservations are made well in advance of the ride, canceling the tour would occur only with severe, unsafe, life threatening weather conditions.  Riders must be prepared to ride unless weather conditions force a cancellation.

    Riding Conditions and Distances:

    · A great deal of time has been dedicated in planning the routes of each tour.  When the rides are planned, only hard-surfaced roads are used.  But a lot can happen with the roads between the time the route is created and the time the tour actually takes place.  Things like road construction, pot holes, detours and road damage (to name a few) can and do occur. Riders must be prepared and experienced enough to react to each situation in order to maintain individual and group safety.

    · Each daily route is designed to offer a full day’s riding adventure.  In addition to the varied road terrain and great landscapes, time is allotted for sightseeing and refreshments at road-side stops.  Daily riding distances can vary from 100 to 300+ miles.   A hundred miles may seem like a short riding distance but be assured that this can be a long riding day.

    PARR Tour Riding Requirements, continued;

     General Riding Rules:

    A pre-ride briefing will occur prior to each day’s planed ride.

    · When riding 4-lane roads and wide 2-laners, staggered formation is used.

    · When riding narrow roads, 2- lane roads without shoulders, and scenic byways, single formation is used.

    · Riders will point out road hazards to the riders behind them.

    · You’ll be responsible for the rider behind you. When you make a turn, the rider behind you must be able to see you turn.  If necessary, slow down and even stop.  The use of this procedure will ensure that no one gets lost or left behind.

    · Maintain an even formation using the 2-3 second spacing rule, this will also stop the accordion effect. Large gaps in the formation should not exist.  There should not be room enough for a car to merge into the group.

    · Group leaders, Tail Gunners and Communications riders will keep the Road Captain informed of group status on the road via CB radio.

    · No passing is permitted in formation.

    · Any riders leaving the group should notify the Group Leader.

    · Any problems or concerns should be reported to the Road Captain.

                 As a general rule and for the purpose of comfort, we’ll stop approximately every 50-60 miles or approximately 1-hour riding time.  We’ll usually stop at a gas station where rest rooms and refreshments are available.  When we stop at a gas station, riders should purchase gas unless they have enough to cover the next 100 miles.  This way we’ll avoid everyone getting gas at the same time.  We plan on arriving back at our overnight accommodations each night to allow plenty of time to enjoy any amenities offered.

    On the final day of our tour, we’ll arrive at our end destination around 4:00 p.m.  Delays can occur with unforeseen circumstances so allow for them.

    Rules for using Alcoholic Beverages:

    · Alcohol may not be consumed during the ride day.

    · Alcoholic beverages are not to be used until after each day’s ride has been completed and the bikes have been parked for the night.

    ·Tour participants are expected to use moderation when drinking after the ride has ended for the day. Remember, we usually get up and start early.  Hangovers can have a negative effect on your riding ability and endanger your safety & the safety of other riders.

     · Failure to abide by any of the above requirements may result in you being asked to leave the tour group.
