| National Parks Tour - Individually some PARR members are attempting to secure an IRON BUTT ASSOCIATION designation by completing their National Parks Tour. The general requirement is to visit 50 National Parks, National/Monuments/Battlefields etc (as designated by the National Parks Service) in 25 different states. Evidence of the visit can be documented by the national park stamps, an entry receipt (where provided) or a receipt from the park gift ship (where provided). This does not have to completed as one continuous ride but MUST be completed within one 12 month period (not necessarily a calendar year). |
| Grand
Tour of Virginia - In 2009 three PARR
members completed in this ride which Virginia is promoting
as a "Grand Tour" in the interest of tourism. The gist of it is
riding to a variety of locations around the state and accumulating
"stamps" on "passport" (similar to some other
"tours"). The sites to visit cover the breadth of the state
(Bristol, many down the mountain corridor, Richmond area, Tidewater,
and Northern Va.) The stamps are secured largely at commercial sponsors
of the Tour, but many are in or near scenic areas. The time frame
is from now through November 1. Raffle prizes are awarded at certain
levels of achievement (but the excuse to ride all over the state would
be the participant's most likely motivation (plus there is a tee shirt).
Vice President Ron Perlik was one of the big raffle winners and won
a $500 gift certificate. This tour
will be repeated for 2010 with additional locations. For 2010
there is a variation, each site has a point value and depending on
the total points you accumulate you will be entered for different
levels of prizes. |
